Speaking Up: Marcia’s Journey to the British Educational Research Association

Outreach lead at Bromley Trust Academy, Marcia White, presented part of her Doctoral Research to British Educational Research Association (BERA) in London last week.

Dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs, Marcia is continuing her own educational journey while working at BTA.

BERA had launched a competition for Early Career Researchers, which Marcia applied for and was selected to present her work in front of both new and experienced researchers.

Speaking about her experience, Marcia said:

“Despite having held various roles in education over the years, I find public speaking a real challenge. I wanted to help combat this, so submitted my research the BERA. I was surprised to get selected and extremely nervous, but very grateful for the opportunity to present at this level.

“The audience was supportive and curious. This experience has encouraged me to continue with my own educational journey and reaffirmed why I wanted to study at this level.

“My aim is to improve the outcomes for children I work with and to be an advocate for them, which is much needed and something my colleagues aim to do every day.”
